The book represents a certain essay on the life of the Russian nation, to which the leading Czech humanist photographer dedicated almost 40 years. It offers a perspective on a nation that has a need for icons, saints, and politics. It reflects the renaissance of Orthodoxy after the rejection of communist ideology, Russian messianism, pathos, and grandeur. The first part of the book is dedicated to the period of the Soviet Union; however, the central part consists of photographs from contemporary Russia, when, after the collapse of the Soviet empire, Russians are once again reclaiming their national self-confidence.
The book contains 230 photographs and detailed captions with explanations of the realities at the end of the book.
