“I returned to Japan to photograph something dear to me, without knowing exactly what it was. I was searching for peace in a megalopolis where it seems impossible to find it. I thought that if I could find it in Tokyo, perhaps I would find it within myself as well.”
It was then that I discovered the Kodo, a trail that winds through forests and rocky terrain. I got lost there for several days, and this wandering turned out to be a revelation. After seven days of walking, I returned to Tokyo covered in mud, but filled with a peace that a city of thirty million people cannot disturb.
“For the next month, I photographed nonstop, with a newfound conviction and clarity. Each image became a scene, almost like a play—fragile and intensely present at the same time. I raised my camera again and again, filled with gratitude: once more, photography had opened up a new path for me.”
