Belgicum is a photo project about Belgium. It is not an objective reflection of a country but a subjective photo document in black and white. A journey of discovery through a small country in the center of Europe at the turn of the century.
For more than fifteen years, photographer Stephan Vanfleteren has wandered through the territory of 'Belgicum', lost and hunted by emotion and love for his motherland. It became a journey through a country with scars, in search of an elusive identity but with the melancholic soul of an old nation.
