EQUINE LANDSCAPE

After a tough 2023, when personal stuff and a lack of motivation pretty much killed my passion for photography, I decided at the beginning of 2024 to put aside the heavy social topics I'd been focusing on for the past few years, and put my energy into something completely different. Instead of capturing despair and hopelessness, I want to try creating a celebration of life.

The life of a horse.

What also helped me decide was realizing that, even though Prague might feel far from idyllic pastures and stables, there are actually places where the city fades into a horse's landscape. I managed to find one of these places on the eastern edge of the city, where I ended up spending dozens of hours over the next year with a small herd of horses.

I've always focused on people in my photography, so my initial idea was to capture people and their interactions with these majestic animals.

But the more time I spent in this environment, the more I realized that what truly fascinated me were the horses themselves. The presence of people, if anything, felt distracting. So, I started seeking out moments when the horses weren't restricted by bridles or following their owner's commands.

I was drawn to their calm, quiet pride, which would sometimes be interrupted by a playful sparkle in their eyes. Their curiosity and their raw energy came alive when they had the freedom to just be themselves.

Being around them - listening to their breath, noticing their movements, and observing how they communicated with each other-brought me an incredible sense of peace. Sometimes, I'd just stand there, leaning my head against their sides, silently talking to them in my head.

In those moments, none of us needed anything.

Not me, not them.
